Remove Carpet Stains

unrecognized person cleaning the carpet using foam
Carpets are beautiful and do a lot of accentuating in a space but most people avoid it and would rather go for other flooring options because of the high level of maintenance that comes with using a carpet. It becomes twice as worse if you have children or pets in your home as many things could go wrong, from your toddler peeing on the carpet to your pet messing it up and even your classic wine spills. To use carpets for a long time and get your money’s worth, you have to acquaint yourself with how to remove common stains on carpets.

Removing Coffee Stains from Carpets
Coffee stains are one of the most common carpet stains, apart from urine and food. They leave a dirty looking discoloration on the carpet that can be mistaken for a lot of things. Here is how to properly deal with coffee stains on your carpet:
  • The first step is to dry the liquid so that it does not spread. This can be done with a dry towel. Just make sure to blot and not rub.
  • Use vinegar, water, and detergent to dampen the surface and blot out till it fades
  • If that doesn’t work, you can get carpet cleaners but make sure to do a patch test so you don’t ruin the carpet.
  • You can also try the bleach and water method.

Removing Ink Stains from Carpets
Ink stains are just as bad as any as they leave a blueish or blackish tint on the carpet and are hard to blot out but here is how to deal with ink stains on your carpet.
  • Put enough alcohol to dampen a clean white cloth (not colored because the color of the cloth might come off on the rug and compound the problem) and then dab on the stain gently.
  • Remove excess moisture if there is any
  • Rinse with water, blot dry and then vacuum
  • You can do this as many times as you would need to get the stain out.

Removing Blood Stains from Carpets
When it comes to removing blood stains, time is of the essence. Here is how to remove a blood stain quickly:
  • Put cold water on a white towel and use it to blot the surface (cold water because hot water makes blood coagulate faster which can make the removal process harder).
  • Spray liquid detergent on the surface and blot with a dry cloth.
  • Repeat till the stain is gone.

Removing Food Stains from Carpets
  • With food, the first step to take would be to clear the area, i.e if food has spilled unto the carpet, get rid of the food first, and try as much as possible not to spread the stain while doing this.
  • Mix vinegar and water and spray the solution on the stain
  • If that does not work, you can use baking soda. Make a paste and put it on the surface of the stain, leave it for a while, and then remove it with a damp cloth
  • Club soda and detergent can also be used to remove food stains.
